Splitting bills

Equal split is usually wrong. Here's what to use instead

Equal split feels simple, which is exactly why it gets used by default — and it's often not the fair answer. A couple sharing a room owes differently than a single guest. Someone who skipped the bar tab owes differently than the group's biggest drinker.

Custom percentage splits fix the biggest complaints without much more effort: set each person's share once, and every future bill against that party uses it automatically.

For food-and-drink nights specifically, "only drinkers pay for drinks" resolves more arguments per minute of setup than any other rule.

The best split mode is the one decided before the party, not during checkout — settle it in setup and nobody has to do math at the table.
